Conflict of Interest (CoI) Database

The AHA’s Conflict of Interest (CoI) rules, procedures and forms underwent a comprehensive review in 2004/05. As a result, in October 2005, the Conflict of Interest Review Committee required and the Board of Directors approved an enhanced CoI database that lets volunteers and staff enter and review their CoI disclosure information online instead of manually, on paper. A task force of staff from various departments  developed and implemented the new CoI database.

The new CoI database makes it easier for AHA volunteers and staff to submit, update and access their conflict of interest information and will improve the conflict of interest process in the following ways:

  • gain process efficiencies by automating a paper-based, primarily manual process
  • create a robust CoI database with growth capacity, better searching and reporting tools
  • reduce duplication of work and associated time for AHA volunteers and staff in filling out multiple   CoI forms and for staff in reviewing CoI forms.
